Friendship · Open · Tasha

My friend celebrates everybody except me. Am I being sensitive, or is it time to move differently?

You are not being sensitive. You are being observant, and you have been observing this long enough to write me about it.

Here is what I have learned: people show you their capacity, not their intention. She may love you and still not be able to clap for you. That is hers to work out, not yours to earn your way out of.

Say it once, calmly: "I noticed you show up big for everybody else and I felt the difference." Then watch what she does with it. Not what she says — what she does the next time you win. Adjust the seat she has at your table accordingly. You do not have to end the friendship. You do have to stop handing your good news to somebody who keeps putting it down.
